How to Get a Google Tag Manager Extension
There are plenty of extensions to choose from, but how do you get a Google Tag Manager extension downloaded and in place? When it comes to the official Google Tag Manager extension, it can be complex. That’s why we’ve put together these instructions to help you get started.
It’s important to note that Google Tag Assistant is now a legacy extension. It’s been replaced by Tag Assistant Companion.

How to get a Google Tag Manager extension: Tag Assistant Companion

To download the Tag Assistant Companion extension for your browser, follow these steps:

For Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome Web Store: Go to the Chrome Web Store.
  1. Search for the Extension: In the search bar, type "Google Tag Assistant".
  1. Select the Extension: Look for the extension named "Tag Assistant Companion". This is the official extension from Google for managing and debugging Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, and other tag-related scripts.
  1. Add to Chrome: Click on the "Add to Chrome" button next to the extension. A pop-up will appear asking for confirmation to add the extension.
  1. Confirm Addition: Click "Add extension" in the confirmation dialog. The extension will be downloaded and added to your browser.

For Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox Add-ons: Go to the Firefox Add-ons website.
  1. Search for the Extension: In the search bar, type "Tag Assistant Companion".
  1. Select the Extension: Look for the extension named "Google Tag Assistant (Legacy)".
  1. Add to Firefox: Click on the "Add to Firefox" button next to the extension. A pop-up will appear asking for confirmation to add the extension.
  1. Confirm Addition: Click "Add" in the confirmation dialog. The extension will be downloaded and added to your browser.

Using the Extension:

Once the extension is installed, you can use it by clicking on the extension icon in your browser's toolbar. This will allow you to start recording and troubleshooting tags on your website.
